The new sixth edition contains units updated to include advances or changes in technology, procedures, and or equipment. Over new images have been added to emphasize the practical application approach to the book. The heat pump has to melt this ice periodically, so it switches itself back to air conditioner mode to heat up the coils. To avoid pumping cold air into the house in air conditioner mode, the heat pump also lights up burners or electric strip heaters to heat the cold air that the air conditioner is pumping out.
Once the ice is melted, the heat pump switches back to heating mode and turns off the burners. Refrigeration Defrost Heater consists of ni-chromium resistance wire, neoprene lead wire, and standard sheath materials. These are used for electric defrosting of coils and evaporator pans for commercial refrigeration equipment. This may be clamped to pipes or tanks to promote drainage and prevent freezing. Exhaust Fan: The device exhausts hot air from the condenser.
The condenser discharges the latent heat of refrigerant. In window type air conditioner heat exhaust fan runs by same motor of cooling fan but in split type air condition heat exhaust fan runs by a different motor.
Normally this component used only in air conditioners. Timer: A mechanical defrost timer controls the defrost cycle of the freezer. In older models, the timer runs continuously and roughly every six hours, cuts power to the cooling system and sends power to the defrost heater.
In newer models the timer advances only while the compressor or defrost cycle is running - an improvement for efficiency. As the timer continues to advance, power to the heating element is cut and power is restored to the cooling system. If the timer does not advance, the appliance will be stuck either in defrost or refrigerate mode, resulting in, respectively, and no cooling or frost build-up. World University of Bangladesh The defrost timer is usually found behind the front grill "toe kick" of the refrigerator.
It may also be found behind a cover plate inside the refrigerator or freezer, in the temperature control console, or behind the refrigerator near the compressor. Electrical timer: A type of timer in which the contacts change position immediately when the coil is energized, but delay returning to their normal position when the coil is de- energized. Thermostat Mechanical Bi-metal On a steam or hot-water radiator system, the thermostat may be entirely mechanical.
Generally, this is an automatic valve which regulates the flow based on the temperature. For the most part, their use is now rare, as modern under- floor radiator systems use electric valves, as do some older retrofitted systems. Mechanical thermostats are used to regulate dampers in rooftop turbine vents, reducing building heat loss in cool or cold periods. World University of Bangladesh An automobile passenger compartment's heating system has a thermostatically controlled valve to regulate the water flow and temperature to an adjustable level.
In older vehicles the thermostat controls the application of engine vacuum to actuators that control water valves and flappers to direct the flow of air. In modern vehicles, the vacuum actuators may be operated by small solenoids under the control of a central computer. Thermostat Electrical: A device, including a relay actuated by thermal conduction or convection, that functions to establish and maintain a desired temperature automatically or signals a change in temperature for manual adjustment.
Fuse: A device used to protect devices from excessive electrical current. It contains a conductor that melts and breaks the current flow when too much electricity flows through it. Once a fuse is blown it must be replaced with another one to close the circuit and allow electricity to flow again.
Current flows through a switch to the load, such as a ceiling light. When you flip the switch off, it breaks the circuit and interrupts the flow of electricity. Related Papers. By vishnu p. Air Conditioning and Refrigeration by Rex Miller. By Prabir Datta. Air Conditioning and Refrigeration.
